    Cost of wood bowling pins

Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 11:27 PM CST [General]

OK, everyone, help me out here. Two questions:

    1. What is the cost of a wood bowling pin?

    2. How many pins does it take to properly run a lane?

    Lesson

The lesson I took in Albuquerque is paying dividends. I threw a 692 last night. If I hadn't wiffed on a 10 pin leave, I would have had my first 700 series.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Been really busy. Bummer about not having a PBA league close by. Hope you had good luck hunting. I can't wait for the season to open here. Hopefully they will let us hunt on property that I work on. There are a few really nice Whitetails running around. Hope you did well with the Axis bucks and Hogs. The pictures you posted were awesome.

That's a good deal if you can get in on it.
When I played the shot, you had to be dead on. If you missed the line, you missed the pocket. Even if you were off by 1 board. I managed to throw 3 games in the low 190's, but you lived on you spares. I didn't get a lot of strikes, but I filled frames with spares. you have to be real direct with the spare shots. Also, when I played it, I threw the ball down 15 and had to cut down on my ball speed to get the ball to react. To much speed and it just slides by. It is hard to get the ball to drive through the pocket. Your best bet is to have a dull surface ball so you can get a little more backend. All my equipment is polished. I have a new dull ball that I am getting drilled this Thursday for the PBA league. We'll see if it is what I need. Hoped I helped you out, even if only by a little. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. Good hunting.

It depends on where you can throw the ball from I usually move inside toward the left gutter and throw the ball across the middle to about the 15th board and let it hook back in to the pocket. But I have seen some bowlers that have worked the straight up and in shot throwing it from the right corner more at the pocket. But it gets very dry around the head pin and will tend to snap toward the head pin very hard so you have to watch the speed of your release.

You will have to experiment and find that happy place you are comfortable with and go from there.
